To answer Angela's question:

"He thinks it a holdover from my days as a Wiccan, that I am drawn to the fact that a female figure is very central to the belief system and to the ritualism of the Mass."

As a Wiccan, I worshipped the god and goddess, the female and male aspects of divinity, personified. Jody (my husband) thinks that one of the reasons I am drawn to Catholicism is that I could then be venerating a female figure again, through the Blessed Mother, and feel it "legitimized" because I'm still technically a Christian. I have explained the intercession of the saints and the Blessed Mother to him, and he gets it but then again he doesn't.
While the respect/veneration given to Mary is very interesting, and very healing to my heart, (as being Southern Baptist, I was subjected to some of the most horrendous anti-female statements/beliefs) at the same time I do realize that she herself asked us not to worship her. Yes, all nations call her blessed, and yes she is the Queen of Heaven, but she points us to the Trinity.

As for the ritualism of the Mass, yes, it's fascinating, but if I were just after ritual, I could go be an Anglican like my mother. They have specific liturgies/ceremonies as well. No, I want to be Catholic. While the Anglican church is very similar, it is not THE Church.

Does that help any, Angela?

One of the reasons this blog exists

I already have two blogs, both of which I neglect heartily. I don't think I've actually posted anything on my MySpace in months, and my LJ often languishes wistfully for weeks, even though I check my friends list over there daily. (More like two or three times a day, sometimes more, actually.)
This one is here because I want to post about specific things, mostly about Roman Catholicism. (Sorry, Orthodox never appealed to me...) I just finished most of the research regarding a new writing project that has Roman Catholics as the main characters, and I am once again being drawn to Holy Mother Church. However, conversion is not an option for me at this time.
My husband is a fierce Protestant, and even though I have explained the intercession of the saints and he does agree with me that the Blessed Mother deserves more attention than she currently receives in the Protestant Church, he will not agree to my conversion. He thinks it a holdover from my days as a Wiccan, that I am drawn to the fact that a female figure is very central to the belief system and to the ritualism of the Mass.
I agree that there's a lot more to the ritual of the Mass than there is to the usual Protestant service, and that I like that quite a lot, and I acknowledge reasons for him to be concerned regarding my honoring Mary, in light of my past, but he doesn't understand that I have been Catholic curious since I was a very young child.
He works nights, and while he's at work, I say my rosary (I got a free one from Holy Cross Family Ministries, go here if you want to get one or donate to them:http://www.familyrosary.org/main/rosary-rosaries.php ) or I can watch or listen to EWTN on TV or here, on the computer, I can listen to their radio. I just finished reading a biography of Mother Angelica, which was very enlightening.
I asked him, a few years ago, if he would mind if I converted, and I was told that I could do whatever I wanted, but that he would not consent to my taking his children to church with me. Wow, how open-minded.
He's a good provider, a wonderful husband, except in this one area.
So, the main reason this blog is up is so I can communicate with other like-minded individuals, and learn about the Church, and make friends.

Our Lady works in mysterious ways...

I had no idea when, a few minutes ago, I started searching for an affordable "Our Lady of Knock" pendant, or medal, or most preferably, a rosary. however, I'm sure she had a warm Irish grin on her face when I came across a weblink that noted that today is her Feast Day. Why, out of all the versions of Our Lady, do I prefer her best? I'm really unsure. I've had a Miraculous Medal before, and though I respect the MM and the miracles that have come from it, I just like OLoK better. Although I am very fond of Our Lady of Guadalupe, as well. And I'm interested in the Medjugorje visitations.
May Our Lady of Knock, Guadalupe, Fatima, Kyoto, whichever of Her faces you like and have best rapport with, bless and keep you today.

God does love me after all.
I've had a houseguest since May 15th. Today is...August 17th? So three solid months. It's not that I don't love the guy, because I do. It's not that he hasn't been a help around the house, he has. It's not that he's been any more of a pain than having an extra brother around or anything.
But finally, I will have my computer back at night, which is when I prefer to write. Just in time, too, because I am about to embark upon the journey which is the novel. I've been combing the web for research the past few weeks, but all of it during the daytime, while my daughter is awake and playing next to me.
I can't write like that. Not get in the zone down and dirty don't look up for six pages write.
So I will be doing most of my writing at night this winter.
I'm tired, I just helped said former houseguest move a lot of very heavy things into a second floor apartment with very steep stairs in a heat index of 102 degrees. So today's blog is going to be short, and I won't get a chance to update until next week sometime.
Have a great weekend.

I suppose I really should post something or other up here, huh?

Hello!
I'm Badger, your friendly neighborhood dirt-grubber and all-around usually easy to get along with Taxidea Taxus. I'm quite nice, as I'm sure you will find, and extremely curious. I'm curious about almost everything. I love to sit outside on my porch and read and smoke, much like my famous cousin, whom I'm sure you've heard of...you have read The Wind in the Willows, haven't you?

I've two loverly offspring, and a mate, the offspring being a male of almost seven and the baby, who is almost one, a girl, and she runs the den. Period.

Yes, this post has been made mostly in fun, and I promise I will get something up shortly that's a little more serious, but I just had to muck about for a minute or two. I hope to get some readers, specifically other people here on Blogger, so that someone can teach me how to put up pics and such.
hope you have a wonderful day, will see you tomorrow, I think.
